Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Everyone is cordially invited to attend a special Mass for the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus – the patron of our parish – on Friday, June 12, at 5:30 p.m.  Mass will be followed by a picnic supper in the Parish Center.  This celebration will mark the 160^th anniversary of our parish, founded in 1866.  The land on the hill overlooking what is now Cedar Avenue was purchased on August 4, 1866.  The current church building – the third church building on this site – was dedicated on June 16, 1923, 248 years to the day (June 16, 1675) after St. Margaret Mary Alacoque received a vision of Jesus, in which He asked her to establish a Solemn Feast Day to honor the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.  The current church building was formally consecrated by Bishop Leo Binz on September 8, 1943.
